The #1 Health Resolution For 2026 Might Surprise You...

For years, the same old New Year's resolutions were being churned out.
Lose weight, get fitter and eat better.

But, as we head into 2026, something has changed, thanks to growing awareness around the power of restoration from sleep.

In fact, according to a recent survey of over 600 Groove customers, sleep has officially taken the top spot as the number one health priority.

Sleep As The Foundation Of Better Health

We got our community involved and asked them what they’d most like to improve about their health right now, and sleep came up again and again.

In fact, one in three people said sleep is their number one health priority, ahead of diet, exercise, and weight.

That’s a big shift from previous years, where sleep often sat quietly in the background while fitness goals took centre stage.

Now, more people are making the connection that how well you sleep impacts everything else. Your energy, your motivation, your mood, your focus, and how consistent you can actually be with healthy habits.

Sleep Has Overtaken Weight Loss As A Top Focus

We also asked people which health goals they’re most likely to set for themselves over the next three months, and the answer surprised a lot of us. Sleep came out ahead of weight loss as the number one priority for 2026.

People are waking up, pun very much intended, to the fact that improving sleep makes it easier to stick to other healthy habits.

When sleep is poor, everything else gets harder, exercise slips, food choices become more reactive, stress feels louder, and productivity takes a hit.

The result is a clear change in mindset, rather than trying to do more, people are focusing on recovering better.

Why 8 Hours Of Sleep Is The New Fitness Goal

Another clear theme from the survey was how people are redefining what being healthy actually looks like in 2026.

Instead of chasing extreme routines or short-term fixes, more people are aiming for sustainable habits.

Getting eight hours of sleep is now being treated as an important fitness and health goal, something to work towards, protect, and prioritise.

In our research, customers told us they were focusing on:

1. More consistent bedtimes

2. Longer sleep duration

3. Better quality rest

Perhaps thanks to the smartwatch trend, we're seeing a very clear move away from measuring health purely by steps taken or calories burned, and towards how rested and functional people feel day to day.

People Are Planning Real Changes, Not Just Resolutions

Importantly, this shift is not just aspirational!

When we asked whether people were actively planning to make changes to improve their sleep over the next three months, the response was pretty clear.

Eighty-five percent said they’re already trying to sleep better, and around a third are planning more significant changes as part of their January reset.

It’s a strong sign that sleep is becoming a genuine behaviour change, not just another New Year’s resolution that fades within a few weeks. Good news all round!

Resetting For 2026

In our survey, when people talked about wanting better sleep, they weren’t just talking about going to bed earlier.

Instead, sleep kept coming up as part of a wider reset, evening routines and how people actually wind down at night.

We're talking screen habits before bed, work stress that follows them into the evening and even how comfortable and supportive their bedroom really feels.

Rather than trying to change everything at once, many people are starting with sleep as their anchor habit.

Sleep can be that one change that quietly improves everything else, from energy and focus to the decisions you make throughout the day.
